I'll be there.

I have to go as I've not received anything back from the BRCA as I let the club organize that one at the same time as joining.

I'm almost tempted to leave the Mx bike behind so you can do a lap or two! Lappery is well possible, even with the new circuit layout and big jump ( which is actually very easy to get over with at any scale of car/bike ).

Halifax club day 19/07/15

8am. On the drive up on the m62 the heavens opened up big time, slowing the traffic to a crawl. The motorway was a veritable river. I thought - no way we can race in this. And I didn't expect anyone else to turn up, considering the weather, but just as I arrived the sun came out, JB was getting set up and things were starting to look promising. Pretty soon Paul Sheridan and son Ryan arrived, both keen to join the club and get racing. A quick chat with Muriel in race control, fees paid and we're on.
The track stayed wet to damp for the next couple of hours, the first round of heats was steady but smooth for all classes.
Now a quick mention for 10 yr old Ryan - bear in mind this was Ryan's first outing with a bike on a track. At a club day with many people watching. And the track was damp. We were all struggling a little, but Ryan kept plodding on, crashing here and there but grimly determined to get on with it. Come the second round I could hear - ' Dad I did another full lap!' followed in the next round by 'Dad I just did 3 laps without crashing!' Great stuff.
And it was great to see everyone improve as the track dried and lap times got better. JB was improving every round with his KP and determined to crack the 28 sec barrier and was visibly chuffed when it happened in rd 3. Paul seemed to struggle a little with steering and straight line speed, changing motors and gearing until the KP felt better, then also cracking the 28 sec barrier in rd3. My M3r also improved, but only by 0.3 sec throughout the 4 rounds of qualifying and that was with the nitro bike.
So back to the M3r for the 10 min. final, 4 bikes launched perfectly by the marshal, I got off to a good start followed by Paul. I then had a senior moment on lap 8 and Paul shot past, commenting ' don't worry I'm only unlapping myself'. Hmm.
4 laps later Muriel comments on the PA that Paul is leading (!), so I go for it. unfortunately too hard as I collide with Paul at the end of the straight. We both go down, both marshalled quickly and back in the same positions, then we have a nice close battle for a few laps until Muriel says 1 lap to go. So we both go for it, we collide again, we cross the line, Paul leading and realise there was 2 laps left, not one and round we go again. This time I crossed the line first, but only by 1 second! Nice race. I have to confess I have no idea how JB or Ryan did, too wrapped up with racing Paul.
This turned out to be a pleasant and relaxed meeting, the other racers quite tolerant when it came to marshalling etc and one or 2 quite interested in the bikes. We even had a presentation and the top 3 came home with a plaque.
I'll be back.

Sounds great John.

Maybe some of the other bikers "up north" will come back too.

Sounds like a good fun meeting and well done to all those that made it happen. Rain seems to be afeature of every race meeting this season!

For me it was a mix of some good, some bad and lots of indifferent laps. I have a few miles under my belt now so hopefully some steady improvement to aim for. I missed out on an 11 lapper and a 20 lapper by 0.27 and 1.2 seconds respectively.

Jobs to do: Replace slipper pads that slipped like hell all final, do more laps...
