Cheap but good starter race bike (2019)
« on: December 15, 2018, 03:45:43 PM »
If you are new to rc bikes and want to buy an inexpensive 1/5 bike that you could bash around with and race in the 2019 UK championship or clubmans racing and dont want the expense of a full blown race bike, then you have some good choices:

X-Rider Scorpio -           https://www.rc-motorradshop.de/produkte/x-rider_scorpio/
Nuova Faor SF509 -       https://www.rc-motorradshop.de/produkte/sf509_elektro_standard/
Deantech GT913 -          https://www.rc-motorradshop.de/produkte/deantech_gt913/
Anderson ep motorace - https://www.rc-motorradshop.de/produkte/anderson_ep_motorace_option_version/
                                    https://www.rc-motorradshop.de/produkte/anderson_ep_motorace/
Fijon FJ913           - https://www.banggood.com/FIJON-FJ913-15-Carbon-Fiber-Competition-Motorcycle-Frame-p-1164233.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc_ods&utm_content=ysq&utm_campaign=rc-sds-test&gclid=Cj0KCQiA6dLgBRDoARIsAJgoM4vfYWEboS6TK66osHJdJSHgWN1wInF_GOFxswB-vvJ6iVZPxHBtc3MaAn6uEALw_wcB&ID=224&cur_warehouse=CN
(Ships from China, shop around first)

If 1/5 scale looks a tad pricey, you could always go 1/8 scale, although for 2019 you can only race these at club races and the 2019 clubmans championship, as yet there is no class for 1/8 scale at the Nationals (hopefully by 2020):

HKM 390 bike from Hobbyking. RTR               Brushed  -   https://hobbyking.com/en_us/1-8-hkm390-on-road-racing-motorcycle-brushed-rtr.html
                                                                Brushless -  https://hobbyking.com/en_us/1-8-on-road-motorcycle-brushless-version.html
X-Rider Mars (essentially the same as above, no radio) - https://www.rc-motorradshop.de/produkte/x-rider_mars/
These bikes have a lot of spares / hopups available.
Deantech GT918                                                       - https://www.rc-motorradshop.de/produkte/deantech_gt918/
Fijon FJ-918      (same as Deantech)    -   https://www.banggood.com/FIJON-FJ918-18-Carbon-Fiber-Competition-Motorcycle-Frame-p-1164232.html?gmcCountry=GB&currency=GBP&createTmp=1&utm_source=googleshopping&utm_medium=cpc_union&utm_content=2zou&utm_campaign=pla-all2-gb-pc&gclid=Cj0KCQiA6dLgBRDoARIsAJgoM4vstDpuJSpdWjXVkJ6nv98B_Ttlb0jccPtNafGhj3MXF3WUAplLEOIaAhY6EALw_wcB&cur_warehouse=CN
ships from China, shop around first, will need tyres, electrics and radio gear.

Been doing the same review John, nice to show everything in one place though.

Unfortunately I believe the HK390 brushed option is just being superseded by the brushless option. Hopefully it becomes available again.

The ZH, Lightscale options are worth a look but at a slightly higher price.

I am just trying to get a list of inexpensive, good value for money bikes that can be raced with minimal alteration and added expense, at club and National level, here in the UK. There are of course more expensive options, for both 1/5 and 1/8 scale bikes. I'm not too sure where the borderline is between inexpensive and expensive, but am open to discussion on that  :)
I will start a separate thread for the more expensive, high spec race bikes later.
